about

JACK CLAY (b. 1998) is an artist and musician whose work contrasts quirky experimentation and paying homage to the music of the past. His work has been performed by The Winfield Quartet, Naomi Henn, Bryson Rule, and Krista Kopper. He has also routinely collaborated with dance studios and operatic ensembles.

Clay is influenced by a complex range of artists, such as Gabriel García Marquez to Thomas Tallis. With a focus on colorful harmonies, rich timbres, and a central theme of nostalgia, a fusion of contemporary and traditional styles emerge in Clay’s work.

Jack holds a Master of Music in Composition from the University of Missouri Kansas City, under the tutelage of Chen Yi, Yotam Haber, and Paul Rudy. He also holds a Bachelor of Music in both Composition and Saxophone Performance from Colorado State University.

Presently, Jack resides in Durham, North Carolina but is open to (inter)national collaborations.
